Hexbot is open for nightly early access

Hexbot is a desktop app that runs a small crew of AI bots on your own computer. Each bot has a face, a name, a model you pick, and a memory it keeps between conversations. Put a few of them in a room with you and they split the work.

As of today you can download it. There is one catch, and it’s in the name. For now Hexbot ships only as nightly builds.

What nightly means

We build a new version each day the code changes. Your copy checks for it and updates itself. You get a fix the day after it lands, and you also get whatever broke with it.

A few habits help:

  • Back up ~/.hexbot now and then. It holds every conversation, memory, and key.
  • When you report a problem, include the version from Settings, About.
  • If a build breaks something you rely on, the download page keeps the recent nightlies. Install the one before.

What works today

  • Bots with their own soul and memory. A new bot interviews you before it starts work.
  • Rooms where people and bots talk together. Mention a bot to bring it in, or let the main bot answer.
  • Real tools on your machine: terminal, files, code, a browser, reminders and schedules. With your own accounts, web search, image generation, Notion, Home Assistant, and any MCP server. The full list is on the Tools page.
  • More than 50 model providers, including subscriptions you may already pay for.
  • Pairing a phone or laptop on your network, Tailscale, and Hex Connect for when you’re out.
  • Dreaming. Each night every bot rereads the day and tidies its memory.

A Hexbot room where Ledger posts September sales by channel and Scout confirms the totals.

What doesn’t, yet

There is no Windows build. There is no stable release either, and until there is, nightly is the only way in.

Get it

Download the nightly for Mac or Linux. It’s free and open source under AGPL-3.0. If something breaks, open an issue on GitHub.
